A domain name can be of any length up to 67 characters. The only valid characters for a domain name are letters, numbers and a hyphen “-“. Other special characters like the underscore “_” or an exclamation mark “!” are NOT permitted.
Some people tend to disagree about whether a long or short domain name is better.
Some argue that shorter domain names are easier to remember, easier to type and far less susceptible to mistakes: for example, “getit.com” is easier to remember and less prone to typos than “connecttomywebsitehere.com”.
However long domain names that have your websites keywords in them also have an advantage in that they fare better in a number of search engines.
For example: www.doctorcapetown.co.za is a great domain that encompasses your specialty and geographical area which is extremely SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) friendly.
If you have a business name and people know you business because of its name you can still register a domain www.mybusiness.com but then buy a second domain that it more SEO friendly and get the SEO friendly domain to be indexed on Google.
